Body found in Ishpeming field ID’d

Autopsy inconclusive

ISHPEMING — The Ishpeming Police Department, with the help of UP Health System-Marquette, have positively identified the woman found last week near the Ishpeming High School football field as Kayla Jean Gilstorff.

The body of the 26-year-old Ishpeming woman was discovered early Friday afternoon in a clearing northwest of the football field.

Police said nothing suspicious was found after an autopsy was conducted Monday, though the cause and manner of Gilstorff’s death are still under investigation.

The police department is awaiting lab results from the hospital and results of evidence processed by the Michigan State Police crime lab.

Anyone who may have had contact with the woman after July 14 is asked to call the Ishpeming Police Department at 906-486-4416.

Police said the investigation is still ongoing and more information will be released when available.

According to a death notice, a memorial service for Gilstorff will be at 4 p.m. Friday at Canale & Pennock Funeral Service in Ishpeming, with visitation to precede the service from 3-4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to her family.
