Police: No evidence that reported abduction happened

MARQUETTE — Police have been unable to substantiate an eyewitness report that a woman was abducted by two men Wednesday afternoon in Marquette Township.

The witness reportedly saw two men force a white woman into a four-door dark blue sedan around 3:30 p.m. near the intersection of Venture Drive and Wright Street.

But after hours of searching, reviewing video footage from nearby establishments and following up on tips from the public, authorities haven’t been able to confirm that an abduction actually occurred, according to a press release from the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office.

Police said they’ve also received no missing person complaint and, according to the release, “it is possible that the witness may have misinterpreted what he saw.”

The witness reported seeing two men, believed to be in their 30s, force the 20- to 25-year-old woman into what may have been an early- to mid-2000s four-door Ford sedan.

The vehicle appeared to have a black rim on the front driver’s side tire that police said could have been a spare. The rear driver’s side tire had a standard gray rim.

The woman was described as around 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighing roughly 150 to 160 pounds, with dirty blonde hair just past her shoulders, wearing bright blue nail polish, a white tank top with a black design on the back, blue jean shorts and blue shoes.

One of the male subjects was described as white or Native American, between 6 feet and 6 feet 2 inches tall, with short black hair that appeared to be “buzz cut” evenly around.

The other was believed to be white, with dark brown shaggy hair past his ears.

The sheriff’s office thanked the public for providing information in the search.

Assisting the sheriff’s office were the Marquette County Special Operations/K-9 Unit, Search and Rescue and the Marquette Township Fire Department.

The incident remains under investigation.
