Public invited to Ethnic Dinner

MARQUETTE — Northern Center for Lifelong Learning is issuing an invitation for the general public to attend an Ethnic Dinner at Chez Nous in Northern Michigan University’s Jacobetti Complex at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 12.

The deadline for reservations is Jan. 30. Reservations can be confirmed by sending $40 per person to Shannon Quayle in the human resources department at the Jacobetti Complex.

Seating is limited.

The presenter will be NMU’s Hospitality and Tourist Management, Banquets and Catering Class overseen by Loganne Glendening. The students will be preparing dishes from Asian cuisines fused with traditional French techniques and flavors.

The event provides an appetizer buffet, three-course meal (with choice of entree), entertainment and education. Note: dietary restrictions cannot be accommodated.

Under the Radar to perform

MARQUETTE — The Peter White Public Library and the Marquette Area Blues Society invite music lovers to a concert with Under the Radar at 7 p.m. Tuesday, part of the monthly Bluesday Tuesday series. The concert will be held in the library’s Community Room on the lower level.

Under the Radar, playing classical blues and original music with flair, features Dale Carrier on vocals and guitar, Dave Aho on drums, Joel Rabine on bass, Dan Toyras on guitar, and Gary Parkkonen on keys.

There is no admission charge to attend this event which is co-sponsored by the Marquette Area Blues Society and the Carroll Paul Memorial Trust Fund of the Peter White Public Library.

Land Conservancy to meet

MARQUETTE — The Upper Peninsula Land Conservancy will hold its 20th annual meeting on Tuesday at the Ore Dock Brewing Co.

The event will begin with a social at 5:30 p.m., followed by a 6 p.m. business meeting and a 6:30 p.m. presentation.

Giving the presentation, “Forests for the Future: Using Forestry as a Tool to Battle Climate Change,” will be Rexx Janowiak of Green Timber Consulting Forests.

Exhibit reception scheduled

MARQUETTE — The Marquette Regional History Center presents: The Special Exhibit: Vote and Be Counted: Local Elections and the Census running Jan. 20 to June 6.

2020 is a census year, an election year and the centennial of Women’s Suffrage. Explore local political figures and movements and learn about the importance of the census in our community.

The opening reception is from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday with a talk at 5:30 p.m. by Priscilla Burnham, the League of Women Voter’s Vice President and Director of Voter Service. The opening reception is free to the public and donations are always appreciated.
