37th Annual Trim the Tree — Fundraising Reception on behalf on Area 36 Special Olympics is planned from 5-7 p.m. at the Holiday Inn in Marquette. The minimum suggested donation is $10 per person. Checks should be made payable to Area 36 Special Olympics. This tax-deductible contribution will help Area 36 Special Olympics athletes participate in local and state events.

Diabetes support — group meeting from 5-7 p.m. at the Upper Peninsula Children’s Museum for parents of children living with type 1 diabetes. Survivor Cafe author — “Survivor Cafe” author Elizabeth Rosner will give a free presentation at Northern Michigan University. As firsthand survivors of many of the 20th century’s most monumental events — the Holocaust, Hiroshima, the Killing Fields — begin to pass away, Rosner’s book addresses the responsibility of ensuring that their stories are carried forward so the horrors of the past are not forgotten. Her talk is scheduled from 7-8:30 p.m. in Jamrich Hall 1100. Admission is free.
