Pet adoption — people have the opportunity to adopt a pet for $25 and the Bissell Pet Foundation will sponsor the remaining cost at participating organizations including the Upper Peninsula Animal Welfare Shelter. Shelters are at critical capacity right now and by choosing adoption, you are saving two lives: The pet you adopt, plus the pet that takes its place in the shelter. Climate– the public is invited to join the Marquette Chapter of the Citizens’ Climate Lobby for the group’s monthly meeting in the Lions Room of the Peter White Public Library at 12:30 p.m. The national CCL group will present a video-conference to the local chapters during these meetings, which are regularly scheduled the second Saturday of each month.

Tea — The fifth annual Tea for Technology Party sponsored by the fundraising committee of the Forsyth Township Public Library will be from 2-4 p.m. at the Little Lake Chapel. This year’s theme — We Salute You — will feature a tribute to all of our nation’s military branches. Tickets are $20 and are available from committee members or at the library.

Skandia Harvest Fest — starts at 4 p.m. at the Skandia Community Center Pavilion. The day will include the first annual Skandia Giant Pumpkin Growing Contest. Bring in pumpkins between 3 and 4 p.m. for registration. The largest pumpkin will be recognized but there are other categories as well like prettiest pumpkin and ugliest pumpkin. Other activities will include a chili cook off and the best harvest dessert. A pumpkin scavenger hunt is set for 4:30 p.m. Other kid-friendly activities will include cider pressing, candy apples, pumpkin seed roasting, and more. UPAWS dog park — The public is invited from 3-5 p.m. as the Upper Peninsula Animal Welfare Shelter celebrates the grand opening of Paws Park, which is UPAWS’s completely fenced-in, year round, community dog park.

Spaghetti dinner — is planned from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at Trenary United Methodist Church. All are welcome to join in the dinner and fellowship. The dinner includes spaghetti, salad, beverage and dessert. Donations are appreciated and 10 percent of donations are given back to the community.
