ALLIES event set for Friday

MARQUETTE — The Northern Michigan University ALLIES, a faculty, student and staff organization, will host “MQT Comes Out,” a celebration of the LGBTQIA+ spectrum and individual experiences, from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Ore Dock Brewing Co., 114 W. Spring St.

“MQT Comes Out” will showcase personal stories, informational booths from community and student organizations, and an open mic.

NMU ALLIES will sell T-shirts for $15 each during the event to raise money for the ALLIES Scholarships Fund. Established in 2001, the ALLIES scholarship was created for students who exhibit leadership and involvement in organizations, activities or issues that promote awareness and acceptance of the gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgendered, or LGBTQIA+, community at NMU.

Each T-shirt will read “MQT Pride on the front and “Thanks for coming out with NMU Allies” on the back.

For more information, shareable content and updates, visit the Facebook page, “MQT Comes Out 2019.”

NMU ALLIES is for people of all sexual orientations. Its purpose is to provide an avenue for faculty, staff and students who wish to offer visible support for a safe university environment for faculty, staff, and students who are gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender.
