Tai chi — an introduction to the mind/body practice of Tai Chi Chuan will take place from 9:30 a.m. to noon at the Hope Connection Center, 927 W. Fair Ave. in Marquette. No prior experience is necessary. Tai Chi is a gentle exercise the integrates breathing with slow movements based on animal forms and images from the natural world. It is increasingly being utilized for health benefits in major hospitals across North America. Jon and Diana Magnuson will be serving as instructors. There is no cost for this summer workshop. It is a gift from the Cedar Tree Institute, a nonprofit organization that provides services and initiates projects in the areas of mental health, religion, and the environment. Used books — The Friends of the Ishpeming Carnegie Public Library sponsor a sale of used books in the Leverton Community Room on the lower level of the library. This date, 10 a.m. to noon all books will be half price. In the afternoon there will be a bag sale, with books selling for $3 a bag.

Book crafting — The Negaunee Public Library is offering a free book crafting course at 10 a.m. Instead of sending books that have reached the end of their on-shelf lives to the recycling center or dump, turn them into art. Library staff will teach you the art of book folding and share other fun ideas for upcycling previously loved books. Canoes — From 10 a.m to 8 p.m. the Upper Great Lakes Regional Canoe Assembly will take place at Marquette Tourist Park. Fine wooden boats will be displayed. There will be demonstrations and speaker Steve Landick will talk about “The Ultimate Canoe Challenge.” A silent auction and an evening parade of canoes also are planned. This assembly is free to the public and is sponsored by the Upper Peninsula Chapter of the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association. Share The Love — “Share the Love,” a free adoption event, is planned from noon to 5 p.m. at the Upper Peninsula Animal Welfare Shelter.

Superior HOG is raffling a 2019 HD Softail Deluxe at 6 p.m. There will be food, music by The Reveal and raffles at the American Legion Post in Little Lake and this event is open to the public. Member Day — the Greater Ishpeming-Negaunee Area Chamber of Commerce has announced the second annual GINCC Member Day at Water Warrior Island, located at Van Riper State Park, 851 County Road AKE, Champion.

From 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 18, guests can enjoy the GINCC Warrior Package which includes a two-hour session on the Island and a scoop of Jilbert’s ice cream for $20. Kayak and paddle board rentals will be $10 for one hour and $15 for two hours. One-hour Island sessions will be $10.
