Adoption event held at UPAWS

GWINN — Through Sunday, the Upper Peninsula Animal Welfare Shelter has a special on cats in the Life, Liberty, and the PURRsuit of Happiness Adoption Event: $17.76 to adopt any cat 1 year on up.

The adoption fee includes the spaying or neutering, a distemper vaccination, a rabies vaccination, general health check, microchip, and more.

Blood drive to be held Wednesday

MARQUETTE — An American Red Cross Blood Drive is planned at the Ishpeming Elks Lodge 597 along Lakeshore Drive from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday.

All those that attend will receive a free T-shirt and Culver’s coupon for a pint of frozen custard while supplies last.

Children’s concert to be offered

MARQUETTE — The Marquette Symphony Orchestra Summer Strings will perform a children’s concert at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the Peter White Public Library Community Room.

The performance, in partnership with the library’s youth services department, is sponsored by Marquette Breakfast Rotary.

Selections include “Carnival of the Animals,” “Over the Rainbow,” “Let it Go,” “Spring” and “Theme from Spiderman.”

Jim Edwards from the U.P. Children’s Museum will join the MSO as a guest narrator.

All MSO Summer Strings performances are free of charge and feature members of the Marquette Symphony Orchestra strings section. All ages are welcome.

The MSO Summer Strings will also perform at 6 p.m. July 24 at Ore Dock Brewing Company in Marquette.

Free meditation classes to be held

MARQUETTE –Join Jeremy Morelock for a weekly meditation class emphasizing mindfulness, loving-kindness and compassion.

The class meets Thursdays in July at 5:30 p.m. in the Heritage Room at the Peter White Public Library. Note that these classes will begin July 11 as the library will be closed July 4 for Independence Day.
