‘The Favourite’ screened June 18

MARQUETTE — The Peter White Public Library invites film fans to watch “The Favourite” at 6 p.m. June 18 in the library’s Community Room on the lower level. Bring dinner to enjoy this holiday movie in a dinner theater setting with other movie lovers.

In the early 18th century, Queen Anne of Great Britain and Ireland desires to rule independently but struggles with chronic illness and mental limitations. As a result, she relies heavily on the guidance of her childhood friend, Sarah Jennings Churchill. The arrival of a new servant, Abigail, however, changes the balance of power as Abigail seeks to raise her fortunes by taking over the care of Queen Anne. Starring Olivia Colman, Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz, this 2018 quirky Historical Drama is rated R and runs 119 minutes.

Receiving 265 nominations, “The Favourite” won 151 awards. Olivia Colman received numerous award for her portrayal of Queen Anne, including an Oscar and Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role.

Mike Angeli to hold office hours

MARQUETTE — Marquette City Manager Mike Angeli will hold his next community office hours from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday in the main floor conference room of the Peter White Public Library.

The meeting is intended to provide an informal opportunity to discuss issues within the community, and to give citizens the opportunity for direct dialogue with city staff about interests and concerns.

Battle of the Bands on June 15

MARQUETTE — Great Lakes Rodeo is putting on a Battle of the Bands at 11 a.m. June 15 at the Marquette County Fairgrounds in Gwinn.

The contest is limited to nine bands, who will each perform 30-minute sets.

The entry fee is $50. Ray Dollar will be on site for sound and the last band plays at 5:15 pm.

The first-place winner gets $1,300, second place gets $500 and third gets $200.
