‘Christmas in June’ event planned

MARQUETTE — Range Telecommunications in Marquette wants to make the “season of giving” a year-round event by collecting items from the D.J. Jacobetti wish list during the month of June in their “Christmas in June” event.

The local community is encouraged to purchase items from this list (which can be found in its entirety on www.rangetele.com) and drop off at either the D.J. Jacobetti facility or at the Range offices at 2342 US 41 in Marquette.

Listed items are categorized by clothing needs (new only, please), personal care items, entertainment needs, and miscellaneous necessities. Please refer to the wish list when shopping as only specific items are needed.

Also note that the facility is currently not accepting: lap robes, lap blankets, books, puzzles over 750 pieces, socks, underwear, winter hats/gloves or any used clothing.

MSHS Class of 1984 holds reunion

MARQUETTE — The Marquette Senior High School Class of 1984 will have its 35th reunion on July 6.

The reunion will be at the Elks Lodge in Marquette with a start time of 6:30 p.m. Tickets will be $10 at the door.

Safe Routes to School training set

MARQUETTE — The Michigan Fitness Foundation invites everyone to attend a Safe Routes to School regional training Wednesday and Thursday.

Each training will consist of hands-on sessions designed to help you build or sustain a SRTS project. Presentations will share best practices and success stories from some of Michigan’s most innovative projects. Break out session topics include: Navigating the Planning Process; Navigating the Application Process; Students at the Center: Youth Engagement and Leadership with SRTS; Building Sustainable District-Wide SRTS Programs; Asset Mapping: From Resources to Volunteers; and Diversify and Amplify: Leveraging Partnerships to Strengthen Your Program.

Public health professional, principal, teacher, school transportation supervisor, city planner, road authority, or community member:this training is for you. All trainings are free, but registration is required as space is limited.

Houghton’s Portage Lake District Library, 58 Huron St., will be the site of training from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday. Light meal provided.

In Escanaba, the training will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday in the Michigan Works Building, 2950 College Ave.

Spaghetti & Sisu event on June 3

MARQUETTE — The second annual Spaghetti & Sisu event in support of the John Kivela Legacy Fund is set for 11:30 a.m. June 3.

This event is open to the public with a suggested donation of $10. The meal will include spaghetti, salad, and garlic bread. All donations will benefit the John Kivela Legacy Fund to support behavioral health services in the Upper Peninsula.

The event will be held at Messiah Lutheran Church at 305 W. Magnetic St. in Marquette. There will be a short program beginning at 12:30 p.m. addressing behavioral health issues and needs in the U.P.

The John Kivela Legacy Fund was established in May of 2018 as a tribute to late State Representative John Kivela and his passion for the communities he served. To donate to the John Kivela Legacy Fund visit: https://secure.actblue.com/donate/johnkivelalegacyfund.
