Call for original art submissions

MARQUETTE — The Marquette Artist Collective-Show Committee has issued a call for art submissions for an upcoming show titled “Our Story of Home.”

The show committee is seeking original art that interprets the theme “Home.” For example: images depicting home, what home means to self, local community as our home, home as our sense of place, etc. Artwork does need to be appropriate for all audiences; the show committee reserves the right to decline pieces that are deemed inappropriate.

Art will be on display at Cafe Bodega, 517 N. Third Street, Marquette.

Deadline for entry: Saturday, May 25 at 11:59 p.m. Show dates are June 5-Aug. 7. Artists will be notified of acceptance: May 29 by email (further instructions regarding art drop off given at this time)

All artwork must be gallery ready to hang or display. More than one submission form can be completed if more than two entries are to be submitted. Entry form may be found at http://bit.ly/mqtentry

The Marquette Artist Collective is a diversely talented group of artists and creatives in Marquette. Regular gatherings are open to everyone and work to support creativity, the arts, and events in the amazing local arts community.

Spring Plant Exchange on May 25

HARVEY — The St. Louis the King Women’s Club will have host its annual Spring Plant Exchange May 25 at the Knights of Columbus parking lot in Harvey.

Those participating are asked to bring plants, gardening supplies, seeds, bulbs, etc., for display at 9:30 a.m. The exchange will begin at 10 a.m.

All intersested in gardening are welcome to attend and participate.

Memorial Day parade in Gwinn

GWINN — A Memorial Day parade will take place in Gwinn May 27.

A short ceremony will take place at 9:45 a.m. at the Veterans’ Memorial in Peter Nordeen Park. The parade will start at 10 a.m. from the park and proceed to the Gwinn Cemetery where a ceremony will take place at approximately 10:45 a.m.

An additional memorial service will be held at Bakkala Cemetery immediately following the first service.

Participants at the parade are invited to lunch at the Gwinn VFW Post after the parade.

Negaunee Memorial Day events

MARQUETTE — The Negaunee VFW Post 3165 and Auxiliary will be organizing and participating in the annual Memorial Day parade and services.

The parade which will take place in downtown Negaunee at 10 a.m. May 27 will start on Gold St. and will continue east on Iron St., north on Pioneer Ave., east on Main St., north on McKenzie Ave., west on Case St. back into the downtown area.

A memorial service will be held at the Negaunee Cemetery immediately following the parade. Another memorial service will be held at Chapel Garden Cemetery following the Negaunee Cemetery service.

The public is encouraged to attend and are also invited to the Negaunee VFW following services for food and refreshments.
