Square dancing at Dance Zone

MARQUETTE — Dance Zone will offer a beginning square dance session from 7-9 p.m. Monday evening.

The Marquette Area Square Dancers invite people to learn some basic dances and enjoy refreshments with us. Suitable for teens through adult ages

A 12-lesson square dancing class will begin on Monday, May 20 at 6 p.m.

Dance Zone is at 1113 Lincoln Ave. Bring clean shoes that will allow easy movement.

‘Astronomy Night ‘ to be marked

MARQUETTE — The official Astronomy Day is Saturday but the Marquette Astronomical Society will celebrate “Astronomy Night” on Friday at the Presque Isle Dark Sky Park area in front of the pavilion.

Member telescopes will be set up, with viewing to start at 9 p.m. Viewing will conclude at about 10:45 p.m. since the gates to the park close at midnight..

This night has been chosen because of the skies are suppose to be clear and the moon is going to occult, or eclipse, a star cluster — the “Beehive” in the constellation Cancer. The public is welcome

Northern Vegans to meet

MARQUETTE — All are invited to join Northern Vegans for a vegan potluck dinner at 6 p.m. Monday in the Shiras Room on the second floor of the Peter White Public Library at 217 N. Front St., Marquette.

Bring a vegan dish (no meat, dairy, or honey) to share, or consider a donation to the group if unable to bring some vegan food.

Book club to review ‘Darjeeling’

MARQUETTE — Tasty Reads, a book group for readers who like to cook, will focus on “Death by Darjeeling” by Laura Childs at noon Tuesday in the Peter White Public Library’s Shiras Room on the upper level.

In this first installment of the Tea Shop Mystery series by Childs, a guest at the annual historic homes garden party dies with teacup in hand. Thea, the caterer and owner of Charleston’s Indigo Tea Shop, turns sleuth to find the killer and save her and her staff’s reputations.

As part of this meeting, Hanna from Hanna’s Tea Time in Negaunee will give a presentation on teas and provide the service for the lunch time meal. She will also bring items from her shop to sell. Share thoughts about the book and a recipe inspired by it at this May tea party. Register first at 226-4318.

PWPL to host e-Coaching

MARQUETTE — The e-Coaching series continues at the Peter White Public Library on Tuesday afternoon.

The class will run from 2-3 p.m. in the Heritage Room on the upper level. Participants will have a presentation on the Self Help Legal Center given by Joan Ball, Staff Attorney of Legal Services of Northern Michigan. There will also be a chance to ask the presenter questions about the center.

Polka event coming to Legion

ISHPEMING — Polka/Waltz/Variety Dance at the Greenwood American Legion Hall with Polkarioty – Richie & Gabe Yurkovich from 2-5 p.m. May 18.

Admission is $8. Luncheon will be available from 2-3:30 p.m.; drinks available at the bar.

The American Legion Hall is located at 3050 County Road 496, Ishpeming.
