Hiawatha Amateur Radio Association — will be hosting a licensing test session for those interested in obtaining an amateur radio license. The location is the Marquette County Health Department Building in Negaunee Township. Doors open at 8 a.m. with testing beginning at 8:30 a.m. There is a fee involved. Tai Chi — a workshop on an introduction to Tai Chi Chuan will be held from 9:30 a.m.-noon at the Hope Connection Center, 927 W. Fair Ave., in Marquette. Tai Chi is a gentle mind-body exercise that increases balance, helps regulate blood pressure, and contributes to wellness and health. It was first developed by Chinese monks in the 8th century. No prior experience is necessary. A nutritious brunch is provided as part of the morning format. Cost for the workshop is $27. UPAWS — Upper Peninsula Animal Welfare Shelter’s ceremonial ribbon cutting and open house at the Philip and Ruth Spade Adoption Center will be from noon to 4 p.m. The ribbon cutting will take place at 11:45 a.m. at the new UPAWS shelter, 815 S. State Hwy 553, Gwinn. Refreshments will be served.

Life drawing — Ishpeming Carnegie Public Library will once again hold its popular, free, “Life Drawing” class from noon to 2 p.m. Basic drawing materials are provided, but students are welcome to bring their own. This is a “drop in” class — there is no registration. No experience is necessary. All models for the class will be volunteers from the community.

NSDAR — The Onagomingkway Chapter, NSDAR, will host its monthly meeting at the Jasper Ridge Brewing Company restaurant in Ishpeming. This will be a luncheon meeting from noon to 3 p.m. The program will be a brief look at the life of James Madison, father of the Constitution. Anyone with links to a Revolutionary War patriot is invited to meet with the group and talk paperwork. Any questions can be called in to FVR Melissa at 226-7836.

Climate — the public is invited to join the Marquette Chapter of the Citizens’ Climate Lobby for the group’s monthly meeting in the Lion’s Room of the Peter White Public Library at 12:30 p.m. The national CCL group will present a video-conference to the local chapters during these meetings, which are regularly scheduled the second Saturday of each month.

Newsies — Superior Arts Youth Theater will present “Disney’s Newsies: The Broadway Musical” at Northern Michigan University’s Forest Roberts Theatre, 1 p.m. and 7 p.m., tickets bought in advance are $15 for adults and $9 for students. Tickets purchased at the door are $17 and $11. Traditional Music Jam — Bring a acoustic instruments to play those great traditional folk songs in an informal gathering. Listeners and singers are welcome. Peter White Public Library Community Room 2-5 p.m.

Gwinn breakfast — Gwinn VFW Post 5670 will sponsor a Breakfast Buffet from 9 a.m. to noon at the club. The cost is $8 for adults and $5 for kids under 10 years. On the menu will be pancakes, french toast, biscuits and gravy, scrambled eggs, potatoes, bacon, sausage, coffee, juice, and milk.

Open Drop-In Meditation Sit — 5:30-6:30 p.m. An opportunity for individuals with meditation practices to get together in a group setting for 30-minute silent meditation, brief sharing and short loving kindness meditation.
