Avocational Archeology — with Jim Paquette is planned from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Marquette Regional History Center. Paquette will explain and stress the importance of avocational archeology in the Great Lakes region. Learn how this non-professional archeologist who strove to “do it right,” made major contributions to Michigan’s archeological record, by revisiting his discoveries at the 10,000 year old Gorto Site and the ca.1630s Goose Lake Outlet 3 Site. The code of ethics that all citizens should abide by whenever they find precious material remains of our past will be emphasized. Bring a lunch for short break. $5 suggested donation. Life drawing — Ishpeming Carnegie Public Library will once again hold its popular, free, “Life Drawing” class from noon to 2 p.m. Basic drawing materials are provided, but students are welcome to bring their own. This is a “drop in” class — there is no registration. No experience is necessary. All models for the class will be volunteers from the community.

Meditate Marquette —  is hosting a full day silent meditation mini-retreat from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. It will be held at Northern Lights Martial Arts Studio at 1310 S. Front St., Marquette, in the back on the south side of the Women’s Center Building. The retreat will alternate between silent sitting meditations, walking meditations, and some discussions regarding a mindfulness meditation practice. Brown bag for lunch, with utensils, and mindfulness eating will be practiced. For reserving a space, call 906-225-1776. Space is limited. Chairs will be available. Feel free to bring cushions or benches.
