‘Nightfall with Edgar Allan Poe’

MARQUETTE — The Northern Michigan University Student Performing Arts Association presents “Nightfall with Edgar Allan Poe” at 7:30 p.m. March 14 through March 16 at the James A. Panowski Black Box Theatre. Admission is free. Written by playwright Eric Coble, Nightfall with Edgar Allan Poe is a collection of four tales originally written by Poe: “The Raven,” “The Fall of the House of Usher,” “The Pit and the Pendulum” and “The Tell-Tale Heart.”

Staging a production of the play at NMU was the idea of students Lilith Kontos and Nathan Morgan.

“Lilith and I chose to do Nightfall because we wanted to work on a dramatic piece in contrast to the comedies we had done before and we both loved the idea of turning the popular work of Edgar Allan Poe into a piece of theater,” Morgan said.

Morgan is the director of Nightfall with Edgar Allan Poe, whereas Kontos portrays Madeline Usher/Old Man in the production.

“Working on Nightfall has been an absolute blast,” said Kontos. “I feel so lucky and excited to be producing this show with some of my best friends and to get another chance to work in the Black Box Theatre. I’m also a big fan of Edgar Allan Poe, so having the opportunity to portray some of his most famous characters has been so amazing.”

The mission of the Student Performing Arts Association is to provide independent student design opportunities in theater at NMU. This event is funded in full by the NMU Student Finance Committee.
