Little Lake Legion fish fry set

LITTLE LAKE — American Legion Post 349 in Little Lake will have a fish fry from 4-7 p.m. Friday.

The choices on the menu are walleye, whitefish (baked or fried), perch, cod (baked or fried), 21-piece shrimp, fantail shrimp or a combo fish platter.

All these dinners include french fries or baked potato, coleslaw and roll.

Non-fish choices are chicken strips and fries or hamburger and fries.

Marquette Legion fish fry Friday

MARQUETTE — American Legion Post 44 Fish Fry is set from 5-7 p.m. Friday at the post, 700 W. Bluff St., Marquette

On the menu are whitefish or shrimp for $11 or chicken strips for $9. Meals include choice of baked potato or french fries as well as salad bar and cole slaw.

This meal is open to the public.

GLCYD enrichment apps sought

MARQUETTE — Grow & Lead: Community and Youth Development is announces it is now accepting applications for the Judy Watson Olson Education Enrichment Award in honor of former GLCYD President and CEO, Judy Watson Olson.

This $500 award assists Upper Peninsula K-12 schools, teachers, or organizations with programs that help youth succeed academically. Examples of potential projects include homework clubs, field trips, mentoring or literacy support. It is preferred that funds be utilized within one year.

Applicants must be from Upper Peninsula school districts, College Access Networks or other youth-serving organizations. Selection will be based on how the program addresses an unmet need, how it helps youth succeed academically, the number of youth served, and other compelling data as determined by the selection committee.

The winner of the award will be recognized at the Excellence in Education Week Awards Program on April 29 at Northern Michigan University.

Want to learn to play bagpipes?

NEGAUNEE — Bagpipe lessons will be offered at Negaunee High School on Wednesdays starting Feb. 6.

These lessons will be from 6-7 p.m. on all four Wednesdays in February, being taught by The Superior Pipes and Drums through the NICE Community Schools.

During the class, students will learn how to care for and maintain their practice chanter; place their fingers on the chanter; play gracenotes, throws and doublings; and learn their first tune.

After these classes, students are encouraged to continue with weekly lessons with The Superior Pipes and Drums and participate in three of their four summer performances, July 4, 6, 7 or 26th.

Students will need a Gibson long practice chanter ($105) and a College of Piping Tutor 1 ($30) which can be obtained through Yooptones Music. Yooptone can be reached at 906-273-0568.

Grace Lutheran meal coming up

GWINN — Grace Lutheran Church in Gwinn will be serving its free monthly community meal from 5:30-6:15 p.m. Wednesday.

Everyone is invited to this Table of Grace at which macaroni and cheese and salad will be served.

The handicapped accessible church is located at 558 W. M-35 in Gwinn.

Takeouts will be available after 6 p.m.
