Community Family Fun Night — will be held at Hope Free Lutheran Church in west Ishpeming from 5-7 p.m. Along with a cookout and ice cream there will be several activities taking place in the back field; horseback rides, kids’ games, Christian Motorcyclist Association booth, prayer tent, free groceries and more! Marquette Choral Society — first rehearsal for the December concerts will be from 7-9:30 p.m. Rehearsals will continue every Monday evening in Room 250 of the Thomas Fine Arts building at Northern Michigan University. Singers may register and join the MCS prior to the rehearsals Monday and Sept. 9 starting at 6:30 p.m. There will be no rehearsal on Labor Day. Semester dues will be $30 plus the cost of music. Author talk — the Erickson Center for the Arts in Curtis presents An Evening with Author Barbara Rylko-Bauer at 7 p.m.

Bylko-Bauer is author of “A Polish Doctor in the Nazi Camps: Reflections on My Mother’s Story of War and Immigration.” The book was chosen as a 2015 Michigan Notable Book, won several gold medals in biography, and was shortlisted for the 2016 William Saroyan Prize. Free dance party — Dance Zone will offer a free beginner’s level square dance party from 7-8:30 p.m. This will be an opportunity to learn the basics of Modern American Square Dancing as well as to see if one would like to learn one of America’s folk dancing forms.
