Rock the Dulcimer workshops

MARQUETTE — On Wednesday, the Peter White Public Library continues its summer reading program with three Rock the Dulcimer workshops with Wanda Degen in the Business Reference Room at the library.

Wanda is a professional folk musician with over 35 years of experience educating and entertaining audiences all over her home state of Michigan and as far away as Ireland, Norway and Canada. A dedicated teacher, Wanda has taught workshops at Swallow Hill School of Folk Music in Denver, Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago, Dulcimer Days II in Duluth, and Mountain Laurel Autoharp Gathering in Newport, Pennsylvania.

Most summers find Wanda teaching workshops at many of Michigan’s traditional music festivals, and on Wednesday at Peter White Public Library.

Simple and unique, the mountain dulcimer is a 3- or 4-stringed instrument that is fun and easy to learn to play melodies on. Advance registration is required for each workshop.

The first, for adults, will be held from 11 a.m. to noon. Call 226-4318 to register.

The second, for children 6-7 years old, will be from 1- 1:40 p.m. and the third, for children ages 8 and up, will be from 2-2:40 p.m. Call 226-4323 for children’s registration.

There is no admission charge to attend thanks to sponsorship by the Carroll Paul Memorial Trust Fund of the Peter White Public Library. For more information, visit www.pwpl.info or call 226-4318/4323.
