LST hosting ‘Superior Adventures’

MARQUETTE — Lake Superior Theatre is hosting “Superior Adventures,” featuring presentations by Jack Deo, Karl Bohnak, and Orion Couling and the Couling family.

The public is invited to check out these unique shows. All start at 7:30 p.m. with ticket information available at the Lake Superior Theatre’s website, lakesuperiortheatre.com.

≤ Tuesday: “Shipwrecks, Sunburns and Snowstorms” with Jack Deo and Karl Bohnak, who are combining their stories and images to illustrate the wide range of weather extremes in the Upper Peninsula. There are shipwrecks, car wrecks, train wrecks and all sorts of mayhem caused by weather including as the Great Seiche that affected the Lake Superior region during mid June 1939.

≤ Wednesday: “Shanties and Sea Songs” by licensed Captain Orion Couling in an interactive sea song sing-along. Hear how these songs were used in the maritime and the history that formed the musical tradition used to this day.

≤ Thursday: Jack Deo returns with “Deer Camps to Grand Camps,” which will feature a slideshow by the photo historian sharing some of the greatest and funniest photos from his 40-year collection of regional classic deer camps. The latter part of the show will highlight the “Grand Camps” of Marquette County, including Cyrus McCormick’s White Deer Lake, cabins at the Huron Mountain Club and color photos of Granot Loma Lodge never before shown.

≤ Friday: It’s a family affair when the Couling family takes the stage for “Tales of the Northwoods.” Veteran story teller Jim and Mary Couling (Twilight Walking Tours) join their son Orion as they tell their favorite stories of the U.P., featuring folk music and history.
