Caspian celebrates 100th birthday

CASPIAN — It’s Caspian’s 100th birthday this year and the Iron County Museum plans to share in the celebration activities by presenting a special program entitled “Caspian, the Caring City.”

After much research and writing, a power point presentation with accompanying script was created and will be shared with the public on Thursday evening.

Starting with the background of the mines and mining activities in Palatka, one of the earliest area mining villages, the story tells much about the caring concerns of Caspian residents through the years, how they were handled, and the results in 2018.

Government, housing, schools, churches, athletics, fire and police departments as well as social activities are just a few of the items addressed in the program which will start at 7 p.m. CDT. A donation of $5 per person, children free, is requested.

Doors to the museum will open at 6:30 p.m. for this “Caspian the Caring City” program that is sponsored by the Iron County Museum with support from the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs. Attendees are urged to come early or to stay late in order to view the special exhibition of “Ghost Towns of the Upper Peninsula” that is also on display in the Bernhardt Cultural Center.
