Funday Sunday series set
BARK RIVER — A taste of U.P. Gumbo and some exceptional locally grown vineyard flavors are offered this Sunday afternoon at Northern Sun Winery’s first Funday Sunday Benefit Concert.
U.P. Gumbo is a group of Marquette area musicians who specialize in zydeco and New Orleans-style music; their 4 p.m. performance opens the three-concert summer series at the picturesque rolling hills of the Bark River vineyard.
As part of the afternoon gathering, Northern Sun offers a wide range of their estate-grown and bottled wines, from sweet to dry and red, white, rose and fruit varieties to appeal to every taste. Concert ticket price includes free wine samples; also included is a free vineyard tour at 3 p.m. prior to the concert.
Benefitting from Sunday’s concert proceeds will be the Upper Peninsula Honor Flight for military veterans. Tickets are $10 in advance, available at the winery or the Delta County Chamber of Commerce; day-of-concert price is $15.
Bring lawn chairs or a blanket to spread to enjoy the music; visitors are welcome to bring a picnic lunch or snacks as well (no alcoholic beverage carry-ins permitted, however). Concerts proceed rain or shine.
Northern Sun is located south of Bark River and U.S. 2 at 983 10th Road; watch for directional signs from U.S. 2 and on southbound D Road (South Bark River Road).
