Blood drives announced

MARQUETTE — The U.P. Regional Blood Center, a service of UP Health System-Marquette, has announced the following blood drives throughout the Upper Peninsula (all times local):

Camp Star deadline approaches

MARQUETTE — STAR Children’s Bereavement Services will be hosting its annual weekend-long summer camp, Camp STAR on Aug. 10-12 at Bay Cliff Health Camp in Big Bay.

Children interested in attending must live in the Upper Peninsula, be between the ages of 8 and 17, and have experienced the death of a parent, friend, or loved one.

Camp STAR is a free weekend-long camp with traditional, fun, camp activities combined with grief education and emotional support. All camp activities are facilitated by caring, trained, professionals and volunteers.

Each camper is assigned a camp buddy, who are young adults ages 18 to 25 and are trained to provided one-on-one companionship throughout the weekend.

The deadline to apply to be a camper is Friday, July 13. Volunteer applications are due June 22. Applications can be found online at www.starcbs.org.

Tigers trip aids senior center

NEGAUNEE — The Negaunee Senior Center is hosting a trip to Detroit to see the Tigers play in August, and the trip is currently open to the general public.

Seats are now available on the tour, which runs from Aug. 23-25. The cost is $399 per person for double room occupancy. One does not need to live in Negaunee to travel with the group, nor be a senior citizen.

The tour includes motorcoach transportation, two nights lodging at Motor City Casino & Hotel, casino perks and a ticket to each game. The Tigers face Chicago Cubs and the Chicago White Sox in Comerica Park on those dates.

The tour is a fundraiser for the senior center’s services, which aim to help senior citizens live in their homes, with dignity, for as long as is feasible. The deadline to sign up is Friday, June 22.

Community yard sale slated

MARQUETTE — The Community Yard Sale being put on by the South County Fund Committee Women Who Care, a non-profit organization will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 23 at the West Branch Township Hall, 1016 County Road 545 N.

Featured will be hot dogs, hand pies and the group’s famous pies. A variety of vendors will be participating.

Proceeds go toward scholarships, grants which support youth development and the local food pantry.

Rummage sale set in Big Bay

BIG BAY– Community Presbyterian Church of Big Bay, 312 Bensinger, will host a rummage sale from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, June 22 and Saturday, June 23.

Fundraiser planned in Chatham

CHATHAM — A fundraiser for the Alger County School Social Worker is set at the Chatham Pub in Chatham from 3-9 p.m. Saturday June 23.

Rib dinner, live music and door prizes will be part of the event. Tickets available at the door. $20 adults, $10 children 10 and under, 3 and under free.
