Lakefront concerts to begin

L’ANSE — Kicking off the 2018 L’Anse Lakefront Concerts season will be the annual Choirs, Bells and Ensembles concert at 7 p.m. Thursday in Lakefront Park at the foot of Broad Street.

This is a free event.

Yarnwinders guild to meet

MARQUETTE — Yarnwinders Fiber Guild will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Messiah Lutheran Church on the corner of Fourth and Magnetic streets.

Sue Wilson will demostrate Japanese Shibori.

Vacation Bible school to start

MARQUETTE — Registration is now open for the Redeemer Lutheran Church’s summer vacation Bible school which will be from 9 a.m. to noon July 16-20.

At this special summer children’s program called “Shipwrecked” the participants will learn how they are “Rescued by Jesus.”

“Shipwrecked VBS” is for children from age 4 through completed fifth grade. Pre-registration is open now through noon on July 10. Walk-in registration begins at 8:30 a.m July 16. Everyone is welcome.

Dinner at Hope Free Lutheran set

ISHPEMING — The monthly community dinner at Hope Free Lutheran Church will be at 5 p.m. Sunday.

Italian chicken and baked potatoes will be served and there is no charge for the meal.

Everyone is welcome to attend. The church is located in west Ishpeming across from Sunny Side Estates. For more information, call the church office at 485-5714.

Book signing at museum planned

NEGAUNEE — Author Robert D. Dobson will be having a book-signing and program for his new book, “A History You AUTO Know” at the Michigan Iron Industry Museum’s 29th Annual Antique Auto Exhibit on Father’s Day, from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday

A book table will be outside of the Museum building, and inside in case of rain. Fifty percent of each book, which will sell for $17.92, will be given to the museum for its continued work.

From 1:30 to 2:30, Dobson will present a Powerpoint program on the book in the museum auditorium.

The new book covers local auto news from 1899 to 1968 from the weekly Ishpeming and Negaunee newspapers.

The book is 8.5 x 11 inches and contains many photos of cars and 87 pages of newspaper auto news. There are 23 parts, covering new auto improvements, early family auto trips, road maps, the “Jeep,” our tourist parks, early gas stations and locations, auto clubs, stock car races, and Ford auto properties in the Upper Peninsula.

Many news items are related to laws as they were enacted regarding autos, and drivers.

Books will appear at stores and other museums this summer. “A History You AUTO Know” is also available on Amazon for autographed copies.

Elks having Father’s Day brunch

MARQUETTE — The Marquette Elks Lodge 405 is having a Father’s Day Brunch from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sunday.

The public is welcome.

The meal of scrambled eggs, bacon , sausage, ham, fried potatoes, pancakes, waffles and fruit is $10.

The Elks Lodge in Marquette is at 127 N. Front St. Marquette. Reservations are welcome: call 906-226-7611.

Sunday dance at Trenary center

TRENARY — There will be a dance at the Trenary Community Building from 1-5 p.m. Sunday.

Music will be provided by Cedar Creek.
