MARQUETTE — Tasty Reads, a book group for readers who like to cook, will focus on “Life in a Northern Town: Cooking, Eating, and Other Adventures along Lake Superior” by Mary Dougherty at noon March 13 in the Peter White Public Library’s Shiras Room.

Having moved from St. Paul, Minnesota, to Bayfield, Wisconsin, Dougherty has found a way to incorporate locally grown food into family favorite dishes. She cooks pho with beef bones from a farm in Mellen and chowder with potatoes and corn from Ashland. She even uses locally prepared curry powder in her recipes. Organized seasonally, Dougherty explores cooking through recipes, stories and photographs as part of a community experience.
