Fill the Boot scheduled

MARQUETTE — At the end of the month, Marquette fire fighters will again be participating in Fill the Boot effort, which benefits the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

For more than 60 years the International Association of Fire Fighters have stood on the front lines for MDA, working together to free individuals, and the families who love them, from the harm of muscular dystrophy, ALS and related muscle-debilitating diseases that take away physical strength, independence and life.

This year, fire fighters will be at the corner of Cleveland and McClellan avenues; and Third and Hewitt streets from 2-6 p.m. Friday, July 28. Then from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 29, Marquette fire fighters will be at the corners of Pine and Fair streets; Third and Hewitt streets; and Front and Washington streets.

The MDA’s spirited Fill the Boot campaign is an honored tradition in which thousands of dedicated fire fighters hit the streets or storefronts asking pedestrians, motorists, customers and other passersby to make a donation to MDA, using their collective strength to help kids and adults live longer and grow stronger.

Since 1954 the IAFF has raised more than $585.5 million to help kids and adults with muscle-debilitating diseases live the life they’ve always imagined and experience the world without any limits.

In 2016, Marquette City Fire Fighters received donations totaling $13,922 from the community.
