Negaunee City Band to perform

NEGAUNEE — This week’s concert by the Negaunee City Band at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Outdoor Performing Arts Center at the east end of Iron Street will feature various marches as well as several Dixieland numbers.

Director Sara Perfetti has chosen two Sousa compositions: “Nobles of the Mystic Shrine” and “Boy Scouts of America.” Other numbers following the concert’s theme are “On the Square March,” “Indiana State Band,” “Westerner March” and “Hogan’s Heroes March.” Also on the program is a concert march, “Beaded Belts.”

The band will play “Original Dixieland Concerto” and “Dixieland Jamboree,” which features several popular tunes in this genre, including “Copenhagen,” “Basin St. Blues” and “When the Saints Go Marching In.”

The band’s concluding number will be the usual, “Just a Closer Walk with Thee,” which also has a Dixieland twist.


Beautification committee to meet

NEGAUNEE — The Negaunee Beautification Committee will hold its July meeting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The meeting will take place at the Miners Park off of U.S. 41. Weeding will be the focus of the night with a short business meeting to follow in the pavilion. No experience is needed and all are welcome.

Presentation on PAD planned

MARQUETTE — Yazan Khouri, MD, interventional cardiologist at UP Health System-Marquette, will be presenting on “Peripheral Arterial Disease: Overview, Assessment, and Treatment” Thursday at the Holiday Inn in Marquette.

Peripheral Arterial Disease, or PAD, is a common circulatory problem due to narrowing of the arteries. Common signs of PAD include leg pain or leg cramps, and difficulty or pain when climbing stairs.

This free presentation will include a healthy dinner, beginning at 5:30 p.m., with the presentation to start at 6 p.m.

Hope Free Lutheran hosting meal

ISHPEMING — The monthly community dinner at Hope Free Lutheran Church in west Ishpeming will be at 5 p.m. Sunday.

The meal, which is free of charge, will feature a taco bar and everyone is welcome.
