Jarvi bound over on intent to murder

IRON MOUNTAIN — A Bark River man will appear Oct. 17 in Dickinson County Circuit Court on a charge of assault with intent to murder in connection with an Aug. 3 assault on a woman in Breitung Township.

Lloyd Martin Jarvi was arrested in Wisconsin on Aug. 5 and was transported back to Michigan on Sept. 6 after waiving extradition. He is lodged in Dickinson County Jail on a $500,000 cash bond.

According to the complaint, Jarvi broke into the home of his estranged wife and while she was asleep struck her repeatedly about the head, face, and body with a weapon. He reportedly stole cash and car keys and fled to Wisconsin in the woman’s car.

The victim sustained life-threatening injuries, including multiple skull fractures, a broken finger, cerebral hemorrhaging, multiple deep lacerations and multiple soft tissue injuries, the complaint states.

Jarvi was bound over on the intent to murder charge — which carries a potential penalty of life in prison — after waiving a preliminary hearing Thursday before District Court Judge Julie LaCost.

He was also bound over on a charge of first degree home invasion, a 20-year felony, and unlawful driving away of a motor vehicle, a five-year felony. He is charged as a fourth offense habitual offender.

Among other felonies, Jarvi was convicted of armed robbery in Marquette County in 1985, of prison escape in Schoolcraft County in 1990 and firearms larceny in Dickinson County in 2011, court records show.
