While out on the highway we recently noticed the flag for Fort Superior, so thought we would investigate (having been up there many years ago with a friend, I was aware of the magnificent view.) This is the new primitive campground in the area off Old Golf course road with 16 oversize camping sites for tents only. The view over looking Grand Island on Lake Superior is spectacular. Note, this is 140-foot hill, so it has to be navigated carefully and would mean you are planning to be camping. I can only imagine the type of view on one of our moonlit evenings. Summer may soon be coming to an end so if you are on a ride about the area and ice cream treats would seem awfully good right about then, a stop in Chatham at Mama Cows' place would seem appropriate. Such a pastoral scene, and while enjoying your ice cream, you might choose to gather in the birdcage-type gazebo next to the shop, or in a few of these chairs shown in this photo with a scene of the old state farm property in the distance.
