282 more virus positives in UP, 48 in Dickinson

IRON MOUNTAIN — State data Friday showed 282 new confirmed COVID-19 positives in the Upper Peninsula since Wednesday, including 48 cases in Dickinson County and 30 in Menominee County.

For the Upper Peninsula, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services coronavirus website Friday also listed 67 new confirmed COVID-19 positives in Marquette County, 60 in Delta County, 15 in Houghton County, 11 in Chippewa County, 10 in Iron County, nine in Baraga County, eight in Mackinac County, seven in both Ontonagon and Gogebic counties, five in Alger County, three in Luce County and one apiece in Schoolcraft and Keweenaw counties. The state added two deaths in Keweenaw County and one in Marquette County.

Using only the MDHHS numbers, the Upper Peninsula as of Friday has had 23,033 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 464 deaths.

Across the U.P., the MDHHS data Friday had Keweenaw County at 162 confirmed cases and 34 probable, and three confirmed deaths and one probable death; Luce County, 248 confirmed cases and 302 probable, four confirmed deaths and one probable death; Alger County, 400 confirmed, 247 probable and three deaths, four probable; Schoolcraft County, 409 confirmed cases and 131 probable, four deaths and one probable; Ontonagon County, 495 confirmed, 62 probable and 21 deaths, one probable; Mackinac County, 602 confirmed cases and 300 probable, four deaths; Baraga County, 802 confirmed cases, 144 probable and 41 deaths, two probable; Iron County, 1,129 confirmed cases and 99 probable, 43 deaths and 10 probable; Gogebic County, 1,212 confirmed cases and 373 probable, 24 deaths and 29 probable; Chippewa County, 1,255 confirmed cases and 1,612 probable, and 30 deaths, five probable; Menominee County, 2,112 confirmed cases, 507 probable and 43 deaths, three probable; Dickinson County, 2,644 confirmed cases and 629 probable, 60 deaths and 15 probable; Houghton County, 2,777 confirmed cases, 639 probable, 38 deaths and nine probable; Delta County, 3,989 confirmed cases and 847 probable, 79 deaths and 19 probable; and Marquette County, 4,797 confirmed cases, 958 probable and 67 deaths, one probable. State figures can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS on Friday had 5,616 confirmed new coronavirus positives in Michigan since Wednesday, or an average of 2,808 per day for the two days, for a total to date of 988,725. The state Friday added 68 deaths attributed to the virus — including 36 that occurred earlier but were recently verified through a vital records review — to reach 20,665.

The state issues new COVID-19 data on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

For the five Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site Friday had 23 new confirmed positives in Marinette County, seven in Forest County, four in Iron County and three in Vilas County.

The DHS COVID-19 data site Friday had Marinette County with 4,653 confirmed cases, 652 probable cases and 69 deaths, eight probable deaths; Vilas County, 2,480 confirmed, 159 probable and 45 deaths, three probable; Forest County, 1,177 confirmed, 94 probable and 25 deaths, four probable; Iron County, 642 confirmed, 140 probable and 21 deaths, 21 probable; and Florence County, 474 confirmed, 70 probable and 13 deaths.

Wisconsin data Friday showed 3,195 more positives for a total of 693,734 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date. The state recorded 21 more virus-related deaths Friday to reach 7,827.
