West End update – Bob Hendrickson – GINCC

Summer events making comeback in West End

ISHPEMING — With COVID restrictions starting to be rescinded and infections rates going down at a substantial rate, area event organizers are moving forward with summer planning.

The GINCC is still expecting this summer to be a hybrid season of events compared to life before the pandemic.

Some organizations have decided to forego another year based on ongoing uncertainties, along with volunteer shortages. As mentioned previously, as a society people are going to be on different levels of comfort coming out of the pandemic. We need to respect that and have patience as things start opening up again. Things are going to be OK.

The GINCC Town-wide Rummage Sale is back to its traditional weekend of June 11-13 this summer. It is open to anyone in Negaunee, Ishpeming, Champion, Republic, Michigamme and surrounding townships.

Registration fee is $10 which gets your sale listed in a printed and digital directory distributed by the GINCC the on June 10. The directory will be sectioned into categories of location.

Register online via a Google form available on the GINCC website or Facebook page, or stop in the office during regular hours. Deadline to register is Tuesday, June 8 at 5 p.m.

Another registration deadline coming up quickly is the Ishpeming Gus Macker on June 7. This three-on-three basketball tournament will be held the weekend of June 26-27. The event is held by a subcommittee of the Ishpeming Community Events and is open to both youth and adults.

Speaking of Ishpeming community events, the Summer Concert Series will start up again this month at Old Ish Park downtown. Follow Ishpeming Community Events on Facebook for updates.

Michigamme Township will be hosting their annual Artisan Market on June 26 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. downtown Michigamme.

The GINCC Children’s Carnival is schedule for June 16 from 5:30-7:30am and will be held outside at River Rock Lanes & Banquet Center. All activities will follow current COVID mitigation as direct by the State of Michigan.

The Children’s Carnival is a free event and sponsored by GINCC member J-Goods Plumbing and Heating. Also attending will be the Ishpeming Fire Department along with several other community organizations. All kids attending are eligible to register in a drawing for a new bicycle and win prizes.

GINCC events are made possible by our Rock Stars: Northern Michigan University, TruNorth Federal Credit Union, Bell Auxiliary, Upper Peninsula Power Company, Cleveland-Cliffs and Eagle Mine.

To learn more give us a call 906-486-1111. Our hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday through Friday. The office is located at 910 U.S. 41 West in front of Jubilee Foods & Fuel.
