U.P. loses COVID-19 cases from state data

ESCANABA — State data Friday not only showed no new confirmed COVID-19 positives in the Upper Peninsula but reduced the region’s count by three.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ coronavirus website took away a single confirmed coronavirus case in Marquette, Chippewa and Mackinac counties.

Local numbers did not change Friday. According to the Public Health of Delta and Menominee Counties website, as of Friday Delta County remains at 3,349 confirmed positives, 718 probable cases and 94 deaths. Menominee County has had 1,799 confirmed positives, 332 probable and 40 deaths. The deaths included confirmed and probable.

Using only the state’s figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Friday has had 20,055 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 439 deaths.

Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Friday had Keweenaw County at 142 confirmed cases and 32 probable, and one confirmed death and one probable death; Luce County, 226 confirmed cases and 255 probable, four confirmed deaths and one probable death; Alger County, 322 confirmed, 195 probable and three deaths, four probable; Schoolcraft County, 354 confirmed cases and 85 probable, four deaths and one probable; Ontonagon County, 421 confirmed, 61 probable and 20 deaths, one probable; Mackinac County, 457 confirmed cases and 256 probable, three deaths; Baraga County, 693 confirmed cases, 126 probable and 38 deaths; Iron County, 983 confirmed cases and 69 probable, 43 deaths and 10 probable; Gogebic County, 1,043 confirmed cases and 362 probable, 23 deaths and 29 probable; Chippewa County, 1,085 confirmed cases and 1,416 probable, and 28 deaths, six probable; Menominee County, 1,795 confirmed cases, 330 probable and 41 deaths, two probable; Dickinson County, 2,409 confirmed cases and 345 probable, 59 deaths and 15 probable; Houghton County, 2,531 confirmed cases, 608 probable, 35 deaths and eight probable; Delta County, 3,343 confirmed cases and 713 probable, 76 deaths and 19 probable; and Marquette County, 4,251 confirmed cases, 821 probable and 61 deaths, one probable. State figures are updated almost daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS on Friday posted 162 confirmed new coronavirus positives in Michigan for a total to date of 893,164. The state Friday had 14 new deaths attributed to the virus to reach 19,612.

The MDHHS announced Friday that state COVID-19 data no longer will be updated on Saturdays; the state already had ended Sunday updates. The next new numbers will come out today.
