U.P. sees 43 new cases of COVID-19

ESCANABA — Delta County’s count of confirmed COVID-19 positives rose by five Friday, while Menominee County had only one new case, data from local health officials showed.

The Public Health of Delta and Menominee Counties website update Friday also added two probable positives in Delta County and one new probable in Menominee County. Neither county recorded a new death.

As of Friday, Delta County has had 3,315 confirmed positives, 676 probable cases and 90 deaths, according to PHDMC. Menominee County had 1,781 confirmed, 325 probable and 40 deaths. The deaths included confirmed and probable.

State data Friday had six new confirmed positives in Delta County and four in Schoolcraft County but no new cases in Menominee County.

For the Upper Peninsula, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ coronavirus website Friday added 43 new confirmed positives: six in Delta and Mackinac counties; five in Luce and Baraga counties; four in Schoolcraft, Dickinson and Houghton counties; three in Marquette and Chippewa counties; and one each in Gogebic, Iron and Ontonagon counties.

Using only the state’s figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Friday has had 19,705 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 423 deaths.

Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Friday had Keweenaw County at 143 confirmed cases and 31 probable, and one confirmed death and one probable death; Luce County, 199 confirmed cases and 226 probable, two confirmed death and one probable death; Alger County, 320 confirmed, 192 probable and two deaths, four probable; Schoolcraft County, 328 confirmed cases and 78 probable, four deaths and one probable; Ontonagon County, 406 confirmed, 56 probable and 20 deaths, one probable; Mackinac County, 429 confirmed cases and 242 probable, three deaths; Baraga County, 644 confirmed cases, 123 probable and 37 deaths; Iron County, 970 confirmed cases and 67 probable, 42 deaths and nine probable; Gogebic County, 1,027 confirmed cases and 360 probable, 22 deaths and 28 probable; Chippewa County, 1,064 confirmed cases and 1,380 probable, and 28 deaths, five probable; Menominee County, 1,777 confirmed cases, 322 probable and 39 deaths, two probable; Dickinson County, 2,382 confirmed cases and 328 probable, 59 deaths and 15 probable; Houghton County, 2,494 confirmed cases, 607 probable, 32 deaths and eight probable; Delta County, 3,307 confirmed cases and 669 probable, 72 deaths and 19 probable; and Marquette County, 4,215 confirmed cases, 804 probable and 60 deaths, one probable. State numbers are updated almost daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS on Friday posted 1,766 confirmed new coronavirus positives in Michigan for a total to date of 873,335. The state Friday had 33 deaths attributed to the virus to reach 18,500.
