UPSET arrests 4 in Iron River

IRON RIVER — After a month-long investigation by the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team, two people were arrested at an Iron River residence on drug charges and two others for violating their probation.

Prior to UPSET executing a search warrant, detectives had obtained information that the suspects were in possession of illegal narcotics and a loaded pistol.

Because the residence was near the West Iron County High School, the Iron River Police Department notified school officials of police-related activity in the area. The school was temporarily placed on lockdown until the suspects were taken into custody, according to UPSET.

Detectives found “various prescription pills, evidence of drug distribution and two firearms,” according to a press release from UPSET.

Two people were arrested for charges related to the distribution of cocaine and “other various drugs,” while the other two suspects were arrested for violations related to their probation orders.

All four individuals were lodged at the Iron County Jail and their names are being withheld pending arraignment. The investigation remains ongoing and no other information is being released at this time, UPSET officials said.

UPSET was assisted by the Iron River Police Department, the Caspian Police Department, the Iron County Sheriff’s Department and the Michigan State Police.

UPSET officials ask anyone with information about illegal drugs in their community to contact UPSET at 906-228-1002 or leave an anonymous tip at www.upsetdrugs.com.
