16th annual Marquette Area Blues Fest kicks off Friday

MARQUETTE — The 16th annual Marquette Area Blues Fest is happening Labor Day weekend at Mattson Lower Harbor Park in Marquette.

Blues Fest features three days of world class blues on the shores of Lake Superior in the Mattson Lower Harbor Park in downtown Marquette, Friday through Sunday.

The festival features an amazing array of world-class blues musicians and offers a wide variety of food vendors, a beer and wine tent, free workshops, a large dance floor and assorted arts and crafts booths.

The festival is celebrating its 16th year with several special surprises and will kick off with a free concert on Friday night as a “thank you” for all of the support from the community, according to a press release.

Friday

Open to public with no admission charge thanks to the Ore Dock Brewing Company and Honor Credit Union. The gates open at 5 p.m. The bands performing are:

6 p.m. Eliza Neals

8 p.m. The Jimmys

Saturday

Ticketed event. The bands performing:

1 p.m. Eddie & the Bluesers

2:30 p.m. The Delta Jets

4 p.m. Bridget Kelly Band

6 p.m. Shawn Pittman

8 p.m. JP Soars’ Gypsy Blue Revue

Sunday

Ticketed event. The bands performing:

1 p.m. Uncle Pete’s All-Star BBQ Blues Band

2:30 p.m. Crosscut Kings

4 p.m. Joyann Parker

6 p.m. The Chris O’Leary Band

8 p.m. Rick Estrin & the Nightcats

The Chris O’Leary Band will also be the host band at the Post-Festival Party at the Marquette Elks Lodge on Sunday night.

Gates open at noon on Saturday and Sunday. All times are Eastern. All times and artists are subject to change.

Advance tickets are $50 for the weekend and are available through Northern Michigan University tickets online at nmu.universitytickets.com and via phone at 906-227-1032. There are $10 daily student tickets (ages 15-23) available daily at the gate, children 14 and under are free with paid adult.
