UPHS welcomes Dick-Perez, Scott

MARQUETTE — UP Health System-Marquette recently welcomed Dr. Ryan Dick-Perez to its emergency medicine staff, as UPHS-Bell welcomed Shannon Scott to its pediatric staff.

“With originally being from Alaska, I was looking for a location with lots of snow, small communities and tons of outdoor recreation,” Dick-Perez said in a press release.

Dick-Perez joins an emergency medicine staff that has the only Level II Trauma Center in the Upper Peninsula. This verification is renewed every three years, and verified trauma centers must meet the essential criteria that ensure trauma care capability and institutional performance, outlined by the American College of Surgeons’ Committee on Trauma in its current Resources for Optimal Care of the Injured Patient manual.

Dick-Perez completed his undergraduate degree at Idaho State University with a major in chemistry. He went on to attend Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine and did his three-year emergency medicine Residency at Summa Health Systems Akron City Hospital. Dick-Perez also completed his fellowship in anesthesia critical care at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

Scott is currently accepting patients for well-child exams, acute complaints, same-day appointments, contraceptive counseling and mood disorder management.

“I love pediatrics and have a soft spot for special needs children and their caregivers as my daughter has a rare genetic disorder,” Scott said. “My care philosophy is collaborative and I look to work with parents and other disciplines to best manage their medical concerns. I’m flexible and really honor a parent’s intuition.”

Scott is familiar with UPHS after having completed the majority of her clinical hours at UPHS Pediatric Specialists. She earned her doctorate of nursing practice degree from Northern Michigan University after earning her licensed practical nursing certification at Gogebic Community College. She is also board certified through the American Association of Nurse Practitioners.

Recently, Scott worked as a Registered Nurse contingent at the Superior Walk-In and Family Health after spending time as a registered nurse contingent at the Vielmetti Health Center.
