July

July 25, 30 — UP Shakes’ will present Tennessee Williams’ “A Streetcar Named Desire” at 7:30 p.m. at Ore Dock Brewing Co. in Marquette.

Anyone familiar with the play on stage or screen can expect a different experience this time around. The production will feature minimal set and props, shifting focus to the actors and the text. And, because of the venue, beer will be available throughout.

“Great writing is great writing,” Executive Director Alastar Dimitrie said. “Like Shakespeare, Williams uses heightened language to find a deeper truth. He creates a world that feels more alive than real life. His New Orleans is a place of beauty and debauchery, tenderness and cruelty. It’s real. It’s sexy. It’s devastating. It doesn’t need to be dressed up.”

Tickets and information are available at www.upshakes.org.
