Bay College women’s basketball team loses to Wisconsin-Marathon County
ESCANABA — Bay College couldn’t quite get over the hump and lost a college women’s basketball game to undefeated Wisconsin-Marathon County, 69-60, at home on Monday night.
The Norse (8-8) were within 27-23 after a 20-foot jump shot by Baraga graduate Justice Kinnunen midway through the second quarter. But the 8-0 visitors went on a 17-3 tear the rest of the way to take a 44-26 halftime lead.
Bay again crept within six points, 66-60, on a pair of free throws by Westwood product Caitlin Hewitt with 32.9 seconds left, but couldn’t score again.
“I think the second half is a credit to our girls and how they played,” Bay coach Rae Drake Jr. said. “Only we need to play like that all the time. Jordan Belleville stepped up and hit some shots and I thought Teidra Fuson played well.
Leading scorer Jordan Kraemer was limited to 12 points as teammate Jordan Belleville scored 17, mostly on five 3-pointers. Kinnunen had seven and Hewitt five.
