Redettes make long trek worthwhile

TRAVERSE CITY — The Marquette girls basketball team made the long trip below the Mackinac Bridge Friday, but the Redettes made the trip worthwhile as they picked up a 56-25 win at Traverse City Central.

Madison Carter led Marquette with 15 points, while Aspen Michelin had 13.

Sydney Kivi finished with eight points and a team-high 10 rebounds for the Redettes.

Marquette trailed TCC by two points going into the second quarter, but it was all Redettes from that point on.

Marquette outscored the Trojans 19-4 in the second for a 26-13 advantage at the half.

Things kept going the Redettes’ way in the second half as they held TCC to just 12 points the rest of the game to emerge with the blowout win.

Marquette also won the JV game 66-29.

Negaunee 53, Hancock 26

At Hancock, the Miners took control early and used a balanced offensive attack to roll past the Bulldogs.

Kenzie Karki led Negaunee with 12 points, while Abby Nelson had nine.

The Miners jumped out to a 20-6 lead in the first quarter and led by 20 points at the half at 33-13.

Negaunee then cruised the rest of the way to grab the easy victory.

North Central 61,

Munising 51

At Powers, the Mustangs held an 11-point lead after the first quarter, but couldn’t hold on as they fell to the Jets.

Michaela Werner led Munising with 19 points and 12 rebounds, while Daryn Johnson had 12 points.

The Mustangs led 19-8 after the first quarter, but only scored five in the second, trailing 26-24 at the half.

Munising trailed by three heading into the fourth at 40-37, but North Central stayed ahead until the final buzzer.

The game was filled with fouls as the teams combined for 60 free throw attempts.

Munising was also plagued by turnovers the entire game.
