Camilli, Nofal pace Marquette

MARQUETTE — Tauni Camilli was Marquette’s top finisher in 12th place in the girls varsity race at the Marinette, Wisconsin, Invitational held on Saturday.

The Redmen and Redettes sent their “B” teams to Marinette, with their regular top runners having participated at the Spartan Invitational in East Lansing on Friday.

“This will be a chance for some of our other runners to stand out,” MSHS coach Kyle Detmers said Friday about the Marinette meet while traveling home from Michigan State University.

Camilli ran the 3.1-mile (5-kilometer) course in 23 minutes, 18.2 seconds, leading the Redettes to a sixth-place finish out of eight teams with 115 points.

Escanaba won the girls meet with 69, just beating out Marinette with 71. Menominee was third with 84, Wrightstown, Wisconsin, had 99 and Coleman, Wisconsin, 114. Following MSHS was Crivitz, Wisconsin, with 142 and Kingsford with 144.

Katelyn Kitzinger of Marinette won the race in 20:33.8, more than 50 seconds ahead of runner-up Nicole Kamin of Escanaba.

Following Camilli for Marquette was Allison Jette, 23rd in 24:02.4; Melanie Gilliam, 25th in 24:26.1; Ada Bernard, 31st in 25:04.7; Molly Welch, 34th in 25:45.2; Ela Jones, 46th in 27:24.4; and Emma Stahl, 54th in 30:30.9.

Ramsey Nofal finished 16th in 19:33.7 to lead the Redmen to fifth place in the boys meet with 128 points.

Marinette won with 58, followed by Escanaba with 73, Coleman 104 and Menominee 112. Coming after MSHS were Wrightstown and Kingsford with 144 each, Stephenson 146 and North Central 186.

Carson Polomis of Marinette won the boys race in 17:01.9, almost 30 seconds ahead of runner-up Miles Kremsreiter of Coleman.

Matt Pillifant was the second Marquette boy over the finish line, 25th in 20:10.5, followed by Lincoln Sager, 29th in 20:26.1; Ben Griffin, 31st in 20:32.7; Nathan Garwood, 32nd in 20:38.9; Jonas Blum, 34th in 20:42.6; and Hogan Nemetz, 47th in 22:10.8.

The Marquette teams get a rest until going to the Pulaski, Wisconsin, Invitational on Sept. 28.
