Newberry stops Nordics’ 2-point tries to preserve win

FELCH – Newberry stopped a pair of two-point conversions in the fourth quarter and nipped North Dickinson 22-20 in a Mid-Eastern Conference football game played Friday.

Quarterback John Paramski, who accounted for 360 yards total offense and three touchdown runs, powerered the Indians to a 22-8 lead entering the fourth quarter.

Devin Wagner ran 22 yards for a score and quarterback Garrett O’Neil added the two-point conversion to put the Nordics on top 8-6 in the first quarter.

In the fourth period, North Dickinson rallied behind Jared Miller, who grabbed a 6-yard touchdown pass from O’Neil and Wagner, running one yard for a score with 70 seconds to go.

Newberry stopped O’Neil on a two-point conversion run after the second fourth-quarter score.

“Their corner made a great defensive play,” said Nordics coach Mike Christian. “Garrett was cutting inside and he just tripped him up.”

Wagner led the Nordics with 166 yards rushing on 18 carries. O’Neil completed 6 of 12 passes for 133 yards. The Nordics had 379 yards total offense.

Paramski ran 1, 63 and 1 yard for his TDs. The son of Newberry assistant and former Forest Park star Pete Paramski rushed for 193 yards and passed for 144 yards.

“I’m so proud of them,” Christian said of his Nordics. “We had a few key injuries and struggled offensively in the third quarter.”
