Ogea heads group of 5 Marquette boys getting GNC honors

ESCANABA – Five member of the Marquette Senior High School boys basketball team earned spots on Great Northern Conference teams announced Friday.

Gaining a berth on the First Team was the Redmen junior guard Ian Ogea.

Junior teammate Garrett Finkbeiner, a forward, made the Second Team; senior guard Luke Pap was a Special Mention pick; and senior guard Jesse Elsenbroek and senior forward Troy Sergey picked up honorable mention selections.

Adam Nolde of Menominee was named Player of the Year by GNC coaches. He led the league in scoring at 18.3 points per game while grabbing 7.0 rebounds and shooting 84 percent from the free throw line.

Menominee’s Caleb Kleiman was picked the Defensive Player of the Year, while the Maroons’ Pete Pericolosi earned Coach of the Year laurels.

First Team selections also included Gladstone’s Reece Castor and Joe Gibbs, Menominee’s Tanner Mathias, and Kingsford’s Chris Roell.

Named to the Second Team besides Finkbeiner were Menominee’s Hunter Hass and Levi Kempka, Escanaba’s Tyler Willette, and Kingsford’s Nick Glodowski.

Joining Papp with Special Mention were Escanaba’s Dan Van Effen and Ryan Robinette, Menominee’s Marcus McKenney and Caleb Kleiman, and Gladstone’s Brad Spindler.

Honorable mention recipients also included Gladstone’s Hunter Botruff, Kingsford’s Nick Smith and Escanaba’s Gavin Peacock.
