Miners gymnasts make regionals
NEGAUNEE – They waited until the 11th hour, but Negaunee used its final dual meet of the season to qualify its team for the MHSAA gymnastics regionals in a home meet against Marquette on Monday night.
Teams need to score at least 120 points in four meets and the Miners put up 120.65 points to 91.4 for the Redettes, Negaunee’s fourth 120-point total of the season.
Freshman Kylar Kallioinen led the Miners by easily winning the all-around title with 31.5 points, tying for first place in the bars with 6.80 and tying for second in the floor exercise with 8.00.
Teammates Kelsi Cox and Kalli Mattson tied for second in the all-around with 28.95, while Marquette top all-around scorer was Lauren Kurzawa with 28.75.
Cox won the vault with 8.35, just 0.05 of a point ahead of Mattson, while Kurzawa laid claim to the floor title with 8.20. Scores weren’t available from the balance beam.
