NMU’s Johnson, Howard honored

MARQUETTE — Senior-to-be Isaiah Johnson and junior Myles Howard of the Northern Michigan University men’s basketball team earned national academic honors recently.

Each was named to the NABC Honors Court by the National Association of Basketball Coaches. The honor recognizes the talens and gifts these players possess off the court and hard work exhibited in the classroom, according to an NMU news release.

Student-athletes must have a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.2 at the end of the 2017-18 academic year and be a junior or senior academically.

Johnson is an accounting-business major who was one of two players to earn First Team All-GLIAC honors from NMU for the first time since 2008.

Howard is a mathematics-computer science major and named to the All-GLIAC Defensive Team after averaging 1.8 blocks per game.

The Wildcats are coming off their first GLIAC Tournament appearance since ’08 and are aiming to host a tournament game this season.
