Mantha leads NMU golfers
KOHLER, Wisconsin – Northern Michigan University senior golfer Ayrton Mantha is tied for sixth place after shooting a 2-over par 74 in the first round of the Kohler Classic at Whistling Straits Golf Course.
The Wildcats team is also in sixth place out of 17 teams with 307, trailing leader Texas Wesleyan’s 295 by 12 strokes. Grand View is second at 299 and Grand Rapids Community College is third at 301.
“Today we had great weather and we were playing one of the premier golf courses in the country,” NMU head coach Kyle Wittenbach said. “As a team we approached the difficulty of the Straits course with great preparation and once again put ourselves in a position to finish well. We can’t wait to play the final round (today).”
NMU sophomores Emil Lundgren and Dustin Dishaw are tied for 27th place after each shot 77, while senior Ben Johnson carded a 79 for 44th and junior Alex Palmer 85 for 79th place.
The events wraps up today.
Mantha leads NMU golfers
GEORGETOWN, Ky. – Northern Michigan University golfer Ayrton Mantha enjoyed a nice day on the course Saturday in the second round of the GLIAC Championship in Georgetown, Ky.
Mantha shot a 2-under-par 70 at the Cherry Blossom Golf course to end the day in 12th place at even par.
The Wildcats are currently in ninth place out of 15 teams after shooting a team score of 296 to finish the day at 15-over-par.
Malone leads the competition at 3-under, while Tiffin is even par in second place.
NMU senior Ben Johnson of Marquette shot an even-par-72 to finish in a tie for 17th place at 2-over-146.
Sophomore Emil Lundgren also carded an even-par-72 on day two, finishing in a tie for 24th place at 3-over for the event.
Sophomore Dustin Dishaw shot an 83 Saturday and sits in a tie for 56th place, while freshman Austin Elsner carded an 82 and is in a tie for 64th place.
