Meske Memorial today at Sands
SANDS — The fourth annual Jim Meske Memorial race will be held this afternoon and evening during the regular 5-8 p.m. racing time at Sands Speedway in Sands Township.
Part of the event will be a fundraiser for Cancer Care of Marquette County, which this event raised nearly $2,000 for last year. Dozens of raffle prizes have been donated and will be raffled off during intermission.
The day is a tribute to the late Jim Meske, known for his love of racing. In attendance are expected to be his wife Lynn Meske. Also there will be Meske’s stepson Ross Olsen and Olsen’s son Ross Olsen Jr., each expected to race and who are past track champions.
This is the second-to-last event of the summer at the track, the final one being next Saturday, the Larry Peterson Memorial Invitational with the Norway Sportsmen Powder Puff Race Pit.
The quarter-mile asphalt-paved track is located off M-553, with access off the highway about a mile south of the Marquette County Fairgrounds entrance and three miles south of the “Crossroads” intersection with County Road 480.
