3 Bay College basketball players named all-region

ESCANABA — Three Bay College basketball players were selected to the National Junior College Athletic Association all-region team.

Alfonzo Fields was selected for the Region 13 men’s team and Jordan Kraemer of Norway and Paige Welch of Bark River-Harris were selected to the women’s team.

Fields led the Norse men with 12.6 points per game. He shot 41 percent from the floor, including 39 percent on 3-pointers. He also led the team in rebounding, averaging six boards and ended the season with 81 assists, 48 steals and 14 blocks.

Kraemer led the Bay women with 17.2 points per contest and seven rebounds. She connected on 48 percent of her shots from the field and converted 82 percent of her free throw attempts. She finished with 56 steals, 55 assists and 11 blocked shots.

She had the first perfect shooting game in Norse history, going a combined 21 of 21 from the field and free throw line for a season-high 31 points in just 24 minutes of a 76-58 home win over Bryant & Stratton College on Feb. 9. Four days later, she surpassed 1,000 points at home against Gogebic Community College.

Welch averaged 5.1 points and 2 1/2 rebounds. She was second on the team with 56 assists and 44 steals. Welch started all 29 games and was second on the team in minutes played.
