Marquette Marathon counts 1,000-plus registered
MARQUETTE — Online registration is available through 9 p.m. today for the three adult races of the Marquette Marathon. Already just over 1,000 people are listed as signed up in advance.
The full marathon starts at 7:30 a.m. in Ishpeming at West Euclid Street near the Cliffs Shaft Mine Museum, the half-marathon begins at 9 a.m. at the Michigan Iron Industry Museum just east of Negaunee and the Blackrocks Run 5-kilometer race starts also starts at 9 a.m. at Presque Isle Park in Marquette.
The full marathon is one of the last chances for runners to qualify for the Boston Marathon.
All three races finish at the intersection of North Third and Michigan streets just north of downtown Marquette.
Spectators can find a number of good viewing sites, including at Jackson Park in Negaunee and Schwemwood Park at the County Road 492 junction in Marquette Township.
There’s also the old railroad trestle overlook at U.S. 41 near the Salvation Army in west Marquette, Presque Isle Park in Marquette, Mattson Park, McCarty’s Cove, Picnic Rocks and the new Lambros Beach park, along with the finish line area.
The Kids Fun Run is two races held in conjunction with the race expo, the one-mile Pebble Run and 1 1/2-mile Rock Skipper Run, which will be held at 7 p.m. today.
