Bark River hosts Off-Road Rumble this weekend with championship drivers
ESCANABA — This weekend’s 43rd annual Bark River Off-Road Rumble racing event will feature championship drivers from Canada and all over the Midwest competing for top honors.
The Lucas Oil short course summer off-road series, event No. 4 of the 2018 season, will be staged Friday through Sunday at one of the Upper Peninsula’s top racing venues, Bark River International Speedway. Record crowds of more than 36,000 spectators are expected for the weekend.
Many will come to watch some of the area racing champions who have earned World Championships in their divisions, including Felch native Chad Hord. Hord has captured five world championship titles and lists 38 career wins.
The short course Karts Race opens the weekend at 6:30 p.m. Friday and also goes Saturday morning to include up to 17 young racers in the division, including 2016 world champion Troy Johnson, 11, of Bark River. Johnson leads the Karts class points standings this summer and his brother Andrew, 9, is fourth in points.
Racing resumes at 9 a.m. Saturday and Sunday with Pro qualifying. Opening ceremonies are set for 9:50 a.m. Saturday with racing set to go until 5 p.m. both of those days.
