Negaunee grad Dre Tuominen breaks loose for 37 points in Bay College men’s basketball victory

SAULT STE. MARIE — Negaunee High School graduate Dre Tuominen led the Bay College men’s basketball team to a big comeback in its 92-81 victory over the Lake Superior State JV team on Monday night.

Tuominen, who totaled 37 points, 11 rebounds and five assists, scored 27 of those points in the second half by making 10 of his 12 shots from the field.

He sparked a 22-6 Bay run over about six minutes that erased LSSU’s 16-point lead in the second half and tied the score 68-68 with just over nine minutes remaining.

With the score still tied 75-75, the Norse went on a 17-6 run over the final 5 1/2 minutes to ensure they would improve to 17-8 this season.

Ten turnovers by the Bay men contributed to the Lakers’ 47-37 halftime lead, though LSSU’s Brandon Allen hit seven 3-pointers in the game’s first 20 minutes, while teammate Jackson Schrameyer scored 18 points in the opening half.

Bay’s Kobi Barnes finished with 18 points and eight rebounds, while Tyler Willette of Escanaba had 12 points and eight rebounds.

Garrett Finkbeiner, a Marquette Senior High School graduate, finished with five points, including a 3-pointer, and three rebounds in 26 minutes.

LSSU’s Schrameyer finished with 35 points and 14 rebounds, while Allen had 26 points.

The Norse remain on the road for a game against the Lawrence University JV in Appleton, Wisconsin, at 7 p.m. EST Wednesday.
