Marquette American Legion youth hockey team wins Bantam AA district title

The Marquette American Legion Bantam AA team captured the District 8 championship over the weekend in Marquette by sweeping away its competition. The Marquette team will represent District 8 at the state tournament in Plymouth from March 9-11. Legion needed overtime in its opener against Portage Lake to pick up a 4-3 win. Cole Ranta scored his second goal of the game 5:54 into OT to insure the win. Drew Dellies and Dylan Baldwin also had Marquette goals to support winning goalie Carsen Hayes. The Marquette team won another one-goal decision in its next game, beating Iron Mountain 3-2. Evan Kroll, Ansel Frost and Austin Ridl scored for Legion, while Brennen Hakkola picked up the win in net. Legion’s finale was an easy 8-0 shutout of Calumet. Baldwin, Ranta and Frost each scored twice while Jaden Reilley and Jack Sides chipped in one each. Hayes and Hakkola split time in net. (Submitted photo)
